Writing has always been a passion for Karla, so when she finished studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration, majoring in Accounting, at Victoria University she decided to attend Wintec to gain a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism.
After graduating, Karla worked as a print and digital journalist for more than a decade, building her skills as a modern-day storyteller. Karla started her journalism career at the Waikato Times and Stuff, before returning to her hometown of Whakatāne and joining the team at The Beacon to focus on community journalism
However, always keen to grow her skillbase, Karla eventually took an opportunity with the tertiary institute, Toi Ohomai, and moved into the communications and public relations space.
Karla joined High Profile Enterprises in 2021 to help develop content and to support bicultural services. Her experience allows Karla to be able to understand the strategic value of good communications and be able to craft content and copy that will allow clients to achieve their aspirations.
When not at her laptop, Karla likes to spend time with her family, including her two sons, Taylor and Tamarangi. She can often be found on the sidelines of Taylor’s rugby games barking orders and barracking support.
Otherwise, she can be found at her marae, Te Whare o Toroa in Whakatāne, helping out in the kitchen, contributing to the committee or supporting intiatives.
